One Week of Practice Came and Went

The Bengals finished up their first week of practice yesterday. With the Cleveland weather, they were lucky to get outside for four out of five of the days.

Pitching Coach Walters has been working hard on getting the arms healthy and stronger to help guide the team to more victories this year. The team has been utilizing the new outdoor and indoor cages as well as the new bullpens.

The catchers have been getting a lot more work in with the addition of Coach Scott Craig. Coach Craig has been motivating the boys with his daily quote: "The easiest day was yesterday."

The outfielders have been getting a lot of work with Coach Hyland and the Fungo King, Coach Stanley. "The boys have looked good out there.. There is still a lot of work to be done but I am looking forward to the season" said Coach Stanley. A lot of running and tracking down balls hasn't been the easiest thing on some of these windy days, but they give 110%, which is encouraged by all the coaches.

The team definitely didn't act like there was an off-season with their daily lifts and core workouts. Though the off-season is short on its days, the team isn't short on their strength. Coach Prevesk has made sure the team is making a smooth transition from off-season lifting, to season lifting.

Coach Ellis and Coach Lynch have been getting the infielders ready with some grounders and drills as they will be playing some tough defensive games this year. "Fundamentals are a staple of our program" says head coach John Ellis. "Our reinforcement of them continues every day through coaching and players' focus."

The Bengals will be heading down to Cincinnati for spring training this year. The schedule looks really good, as there is more competition outside of the NCL than is usually packed into the season. Of course there will be good NCL games against NDCL, Padua, Lake Catholic, Hoban, and Walsh, but this year the Bengals will go up against St. Ignatius, St. Edward, and Shaker.

The team is bringing great energy and can't wait to head down South. The team will freshen up with games against St. Xavier, Oak Hills, and . The official season kicks off Saturday, March 25, at Nobby's Ballpark v. Bedford. We hope to see everyone at Case Western for the kick-off of a season to remember.
